Nishimachi International School

Nishimachi International School is a unique, non-sectarian K-9 institution located in the Moto Azabu district. Founded in 1949 by Tané Matsukata, the school was established with the vision of promoting world peace through education. It is particularly famous for its dual-language approach, requiring all students to study Japanese every day, regardless of their proficiency level. The school serves a diverse population of approximately 400 students and is known for its strong sense of community, often referred to as the 'Nishimachi Spirit.' The curriculum is American-based but highly internationalized. While the school only goes up to Grade 9, it has a dedicated counseling department that helps students transition to top boarding schools or other international high schools in Tokyo and abroad.
